Orthodox Cathedral of Alexander Nevsky Tour

Activity Level - Medium,
Tour Duration - 1.5H

Guided by Deacon(future priest) Ilja. The best and the only way to learn about Orthodox religion and enter commonly closed parts of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.

What To Expect:

The domes of the Cathedral offer one of the best views of the Old Town. The cathedral is one of the highest points of Vyshgorod (High city) and not a single panoramic postcard of the Old Town can do without its silhouette. The tour will acquaint you with the history of the construction of this majestic pre-revolutionary church. This is the only church in the world where the works of one of the most talented architects and icon painters of the 20th century, Novoskoltsev, have been preserved, with his personal signature on part of the icons of the iconostasis. The Cathedral also have a unique icon donated by the Imperial family for the consecration of the church. Under favorable weather conditions, we will climb the bell tower, where we will see eleven unique bells cast in St. Petersburg foundries, whose melodic chime during Orthodox holidays echoes throughout the Old City.
